The Year of Empowerment!
Join my students and I on our creative journey. I have created this blog specifically to share the wonderful work my students create as well as ideas and inspirations for lesson plans. I also hope to inspire others to infuse progressive, design and inquiry based learning into schools and fine art programs.
Create what you love.
Love what you create.
About Me
I graduated from Adelphi University with my BFA in Studio Art. I went on to graduate from the School of Visual arts with my MAT in Art Education. I am passionate about bringing progressive and student-centered art programs to children and schools. I believe in educating the whole child and that art is an incredible place to merge social-emotional learning, healthy self-expression, emotional regulation and nurture positive habits and growth mindsets.
I started teaching immediately upon graduating from my masters program in 2010. I spent several years teaching in a multitude of programs; working with early childhood programs, weekend programs for middle school, high school and college students, after-school programs focusing on diversity for middle schools students, and working with Creative Classrooms as a part/full time teaching artist in parochial schools in East Harlem and Hamilton Heights serving Pre-K through grade 8.
After several years of juggling teaching artist positions, I accepted a position with a charter school where I have watched my students flourish for 7 years. I currently still work for this empowering organization and help to provide ongoing professional development for new educators.
In 2020, I am celebrating 10 years as an art educator and my Mindful Mantra of the year is "Not Perfect, Just Better!" I am devoting myself to making small improvements daily and sharing my heart and work without hesitation. 2020 is the year of Empowerment!
